Definition

What Is a P1.25 COB LED Display?

A P1.25 COB LED display is an indoor fine-pitch LED wall whose pixels sit 1.25 millimeters apart — 640,000 pixels packed into every square meter. At that density, individual pixels blend together from about 1.5 meters away, so the wall reads as a continuous image rather than a grid of dots.

The “COB” part is what separates this class of screen from ordinary fine-pitch SMD panels. In SMD construction, each pixel is a discrete lamp package soldered onto the board, with tiny metal legs exposed to the air. In chip-on-board (COB) construction, the bare LED chips are mounted directly onto the PCB and sealed under a single epoxy resin layer. The result is a solid, matte-black front surface with no exposed solder joints.

Why does that matter for a 1.25 mm pitch specifically? Because the finer the pitch, the smaller — and more fragile — each SMD lamp would have to be. At P1.25 and below, COB packaging solves the reliability problem that historically kept fine-pitch LED out of many 24/7 environments. Based on our quotation practice, most buyers specify COB rather than SMD for sub-1.5 mm pitches in 24/7, close-viewing environments.

Excel LED builds the P1.25 class inside its indoor COB LED screen series, alongside finer P0.9-class and wider P1.56 models. This page collects every model in this pitch class in one place so you can compare series on a single spec sheet instead of chasing three separate brochures.

Product Lineup

P1.25 COB LED Display Lineup: Standard vs Pro vs Ultra

One pitch, three series. All three share the same 600×337.5 mm die-cast cabinet platform with 480×270 cabinet resolution and the same flip-chip COB module (confirmed per factory datasheets), so your mechanical design, power wiring and mounting structure stay identical whichever tier you choose. What changes is brightness, drive circuit, refresh rate and price.

*Pro series brightness is pitch-dependent across the lineup: 1000 nit at P0.62–P0.93, 800 nit at P1.25–P1.56 (corrected white balance, per factory datasheet). At P1.25 the Pro series is rated 800 nit. **Common cathode is the per-pitch configuration at P1.25; the Ultra series main configuration is common anode (drive scheme varies by pitch — our engineers confirm the exact scheme with your quotation).

P1.25 COB LED display module platform shared by the Standard, Pro and Ultra series

P1.25 COB Standard Series

The Standard series is the workhorse tier: 600 nit brightness, 3840 Hz refresh, common-anode drive, 70 W max per cabinet. For most corporate, education and retail interiors with controlled lighting, 600 nit is ample, and 3840 Hz is flicker-free to the human eye.

Choose the Standard series when… your room has controlled ambient light, the content is data and video (not broadcast capture), and the budget should stretch to more square meters rather than more nits. See the 600×337.5 mm die-cast series page for the full six-pitch lineup.
Get Standard P1.25 Pricing

P1.25 COB Pro Series

The Pro series keeps 3840 Hz but raises brightness to 800 nit (corrected) and switches to common-cathode drive at 90 W per cabinet, with a deeper ≥15,000:1 contrast ratio — the highest of the three tiers. Common cathode lowers the drive voltage on the LED side, which trims heat inside the cabinet — useful when the wall runs long hours in a warm lobby or near windows. (Across the wider lineup the Pro series runs 1000 nit at P0.62–P0.93; at P1.25 it is rated 800 nit.)

Choose the Pro series when… the installation sits in a bright, daylight-exposed space (glass atriums, storefront walls) where 600 nit would look washed out but camera-grade refresh is not required.
Get Pro P1.25 Pricing

P1.25 COB Ultra Series

The Ultra series is the camera-safe tier: 1000 nit and a 15360 Hz refresh rate — four times the standard 3840 Hz and double the 7680 Hz that most fine-pitch COB lines consider “high refresh.” On-camera flicker and scan lines disappear even at high shutter speeds — in our project practice, a common choice for news backdrops and virtual-production volumes. At P1.25 the Ultra series drives common cathode like the Pro (the series’ main configuration is common anode).

Choose the Ultra series when… cameras ever point at the wall: broadcast studios, hybrid-event stages, video-conference backdrops. The same three tiers also behave consistently at a finer pitch — a dedicated P0.9375 (P0.9) COB page is in preparation.

Hardware

Inside the 600×337.5 mm Die-Cast COB Cabinet

The P1.25 cabinet is die-cast aluminum, 600×337.5 mm across and only 39.75 mm thick, weighing about 4 kg with a 480×270-pixel face resolution (confirmed per factory datasheet). Pro and Ultra ship the same platform: every series in this lineup uses the same 600×337.5 mm 27B-class cabinet, so mechanical and power planning carry over unchanged between tiers.

Cabinet Parameter Specification
Cabinet size 600 × 337.5 × 39.75 mm (confirmed)
Cabinet resolution 480 × 270 px = 129,600 px/cabinet (confirmed)
Pixel density 640,000 px/m² (confirmed)
Material Die-cast aluminum, one-piece molded frame (confirmed)
Cabinet weight ~4 kg (confirmed) — one technician can handle one cabinet
Module layout 8 × COB modules, each 150 × 168.75 mm, 120 × 135 px, plus one integrated control board (confirmed)
Front protection 4H surface hardness, IP54, cleanable with water (confirmed)
Max power 70 W/cabinet (Standard) · 90 W/cabinet (Pro) · ≈86 W/cabinet (Ultra) (confirmed)
Large-format option Standard series also offers a 600×675×39.75 mm cabinet (35B): 16 modules, 480×540 px, ~7.9 kg — fewer cabinets to hang on big walls

Why die-cast aluminum matters at 1.25 mm

At 640,000 px/m², any cabinet-to-cabinet height mismatch shows up as a visible seam. Die-cast molding holds the module plane far flatter than welded sheet-metal frames, which is what keeps a multi-cabinet wall seamless at short viewing distance.

The 39.75 mm profile is the second quiet advantage. A wall built from these cabinets protrudes less than a hand-span from the mounting wall, so it fits lobbies and corridors where a deep rear-service cabinet simply has no room.

Cabinet weight installation cost. At ~4 kg per cabinet, a 3×2 m wall (30 cabinets) weighs about 120 kg before structure — light enough for standard wall frames instead of heavy steel sub-structures. Fewer labor hours, lower rigging cost, faster delivery.

Core Technology

Flip-Chip COB Module Technology in the P1.25 Display

All three series use flip-chip COB: the LED die is flipped and bonded directly onto the driver PCB without wire bonds. Two engineering consequences follow, and both matter more at fine pitch than anywhere else.

First, heat leaves the chip through the board instead of through wires. Wire-bond SMD packages trap heat in a tiny lamp; flip-chip spreads it into the PCB and the die-cast body behind it. Lower junction temperature is what lets a 1.25 mm pixel hold stable color over years of daily duty cycles.

Second, there is nothing left to knock off. With the chips sealed under the resin layer, the classic fine-pitch SMD failure — a bent or sheared lamp leg during cleaning or transport — disappears entirely. In our engineering practice, this is the single biggest reliability difference buyers notice after the first year of operation.

The water-cleanable front surface

The sealed front is rated IP54 with 4H surface hardness and can be cleaned with water (confirmed per factory datasheet; IP54 is defined per the IEC 60529 ingress protection standard). Dusty control rooms, fingerprints in showrooms, coffee-adjacent meeting rooms — a damp cloth handles all of them, and there is no static-sensitive exposed lamp array to worry about while you do it. Most SMD fine-pitch walls of this pitch class cannot make that claim.

Day-to-day care is simple: dust and fingerprints wipe off with a damp cloth, and the surface tolerates water cleaning. Pressure washing is unnecessary, and service or module replacement routing is confirmed per project layout with our engineers before shipment.

If you want the full physics — why flip-chip bonds survive thermal cycling that kills wire bonds — we cover it in depth on the flip-chip COB LED display technology page.

Comparison

P1.25 COB vs SMD: Which Fine-Pitch Technology to Buy?

SMD panels do exist at 1.25 mm, and they are cheaper upfront. The honest question is not “which technology is better” but “which failure modes and operating costs your project can live with.”

Factor P1.25 COB (Recommended) P1.25 SMD
Front surface Sealed resin, matte, 4H hardness Exposed lamp packages with metal legs
Physical protection IP54, water-cleanable Typically dust-prone; no water cleaning
Transport/handling damage Low — no exposed joints Lamp-leg damage is the classic fine-pitch risk
Close-distance image Continuous surface, low glare Visible lamp structure at very close range
Upfront price Higher Lower
Long-run service pattern Fewer lamp-type failures More module-level replacements over years

As a rule of thumb from our quotation practice: when the wall runs daily, near viewers, for years — control rooms, boardrooms, flagship retail — COB’s lower failure and cleaning overhead usually repays the price gap. When the wall is a short-term or rarely-on installation, SMD can be the economical pick.

Sizing

P1.25 COB Viewing Distance & Resolution: How to Size Your Wall

Two numbers drive every P1.25 sizing decision: how far the closest viewer stands, and how many pixels the content needs.

Viewing distance rule

The commonly used planning rule: minimum comfortable distance in meters ≈ pixel pitch in millimeters — so ≈1.25 m minimum for P1.25, with comfortable data-and-video viewing typically from ~2 m outward (typical planning values, not a factory limit).

Resolution rule

Pixels = width in mm ÷ 1.25 by height in mm ÷ 1.25. Worked example (illustrative):

Illustrative example — 3 × 2 m wall. Cabinets: 5 across (5 × 600 mm = 3.0 m) × 6 rows (6 × 337.5 mm = 2.025 m) = 30 cabinets. Resolution: 2,400 × 1,620 px ≈ 3.9 million pixels — comfortably beyond Full HD in both directions. Weight: ~120 kg of cabinets. Max power: ~2.1 kW (Standard, 70 W × 30). Final design should be verified against project requirements and factory specifications.

If your viewers stand farther than 5–6 m, you are paying for pixels the eye cannot resolve. In that case a P1.56 or P1.875 COB wall, or even a P2.5 indoor LED display, delivers the same perceived image quality at a meaningfully lower cost per square meter — a dedicated P1.56 COB page is in preparation for the next-wider step in this series.

Applications

Where a P1.25 COB LED Display Performs Best

Control rooms and NOC walls

Control-room walls run 24/7 for years, sit close to operators, and get cleaned constantly. The display answers all three: sealed water-cleanable surface, no exposed lamps to fail, and enough pixels for dense dashboards at 2–4 m operator distance.

COB LED display wall running a multi-source monitoring dashboard in a security control room

Broadcast and on-camera studios

Specified in the Ultra tier (15360 Hz), such a wall holds clean on camera at high shutter speeds — no banding, no flicker, matte surface without hot-spot glare. In our project practice, it is a common choice for news backdrops and virtual-production volumes.

Boardrooms and meeting suites

A 3×2 m P1.25 wall resolves 2,400×1,620 px — full spreadsheet legibility from the front row at ~2 m. Standard series brightness suits lamp-controlled rooms, and the 39.75 mm depth fits standard meeting-room walls without construction work.

COB display wall showing a data dashboard in a corporate boardroom

Premium retail and brand showrooms

Retail walls live at close range and take constant visitor contact. The 4H, IP54 sealed front tolerates that contact, and the matte COB surface keeps contrast under storefront spot lighting — specify the Pro series (800 nit, ≥15,000:1) in daylight-exposed interiors.

Budgeting

How Much Does a P1.25 COB LED Display Cost?

There is no honest single price for a 1.25 mm COB wall, and any supplier who quotes one before seeing your project is guessing. Price moves with the factors below — which is why we quote per configuration, not per square meter in the abstract.

Cost factor How it moves the price
Series tier Standard (600 nit) is the entry tier; Pro adds brightness and common cathode; Ultra adds 15360 Hz camera-grade refresh — each step raises module cost
Screen area Cabinets price roughly linearly with area; ~4.94 cabinets per m² at 600×337.5 mm
Cabinet material Die-cast aluminum costs more than sheet metal but buys flatness — non-negotiable at 1.25 mm
Control system Sending/receiving cards and processor scale with pixel count and input needs
Installation Wall frame vs floor stand vs curved build changes structure cost
Spares and freight Spare module ratio and destination shipping complete the landed cost

Send us your four basics — target size, closest viewing distance, ambient light, and daily running hours — and we return a configuration with cabinet count, series recommendation and factory-direct pricing, usually within one business day.

Honest Advice

When a P1.25 COB LED Display Is the Wrong Choice

A supplier who never says “don’t buy this” is selling, not advising. Four situations where we steer buyers away from this pitch:

  • Closest viewer farther than ~5 m. The eye cannot resolve 1.25 mm pixels from that distance. Step up to P1.56, P1.875 or P2.5 and reinvest the savings in area or content.
  • Outdoor or high-sunlight facades. This indoor line tops out at 1000 nit with an IP54 front — it is not built for direct weather or full-sun brightness targets.
  • Tight-capex, rarely-on walls. If the screen runs a few hours a week, SMD’s lower upfront cost wins; COB’s reliability premium needs runtime to pay back.
  • Ultra-large canvases with 8K ambitions. At giant sizes you want wider pitch and more square meters, not maximum density — we will propose a coarser pitch with the same perceived sharpness at your actual distance.

FAQ

P1.25 COB LED Display: Frequently Asked Questions

Q1 What is a P1.25 COB LED display?

It is an indoor LED wall with pixels 1.25 mm apart (640,000 px/m²) built with chip-on-board packaging. The bare LED chips mount directly on the PCB and seal under one resin layer, so the screen has a solid, protected front instead of exposed SMD lamps. It is the standard choice for viewing distances between roughly 1.5 and 5 meters.

Q2 How close can you stand to a P1.25 COB screen?

Pixels start blending at about 1.5 m, and comfortable viewing of data and video typically runs from 2 m outward. A common planning rule puts minimum distance in meters roughly equal to the pitch in millimeters — so about 1.25 m for P1.25. These are planning values, not hard limits.

Q3 Is COB better than SMD at 1.25 mm pitch?

For walls that run daily near viewers, usually yes. COB seals the front (IP54, water-cleanable), removes the exposed lamp legs that cause most fine-pitch SMD failures, and presents a continuous matte surface. SMD is cheaper upfront, so it still makes sense for rarely-on or short-life installations.

Q4 What is the difference between the Standard, Pro and Ultra P1.25 series?

All three share the same cabinet and pixel density. Standard: 600 nit, 3840 Hz, common anode. Pro: 800 nit, 3840 Hz, common cathode and a ≥15,000:1 contrast ratio for brighter, thermally busier spaces. Ultra: 1000 nit and 15360 Hz refresh — the camera-safe tier for broadcast and on-camera work.

Q5 Can a P1.25 COB display really be cleaned with water?

Yes. The front surface is rated IP54 with 4H hardness and is cleanable with water per the factory datasheet. A damp cloth removes dust and fingerprints with no risk to exposed lamps, because there are none — the entire front is one sealed resin layer. This is one of the practical reasons control rooms specify COB.

Q6 Which refresh rate do I need — 3840 Hz or 15360 Hz?

For human eyes in normal rooms, 3840 Hz is flicker-free. If cameras will film the screen — broadcast, events, video calls in view — the Ultra series’ 15360 Hz refresh prevents banding and scan lines at high shutter speeds, with four times the headroom of the standard 3840 Hz and double the 7680 Hz found on typical high-refresh COB lines. A simple test: if the wall ever appears on your own camera feed, step up to the Ultra tier.

Q7 How much power does a P1.25 COB LED display use?

Maximum draw is 70 W per cabinet in the Standard series — about 346 W/m² at ~4.94 cabinets per square meter, 90 W per cabinet in Pro and about 86 W in Ultra. Real program content typically draws well below maximum, since not every pixel is lit at full white. Power provisioning should use the maximum figure; energy bills follow the typical figure.

Q8 What controller works with P1.25 COB cabinets?

The cabinets use industry-standard receiving-card architecture and are commonly paired with mainstream LED controller systems of the NovaStar and Colorlight class. The exact sending card, receiving card and video processor depend on screen size and your input sources — send us the screen dimensions and signal list and we will size the control chain for you.

Q9 How many cabinets do I need for a 3 × 2 m screen?

Five columns (5 × 600 mm = 3.0 m) by six rows (6 × 337.5 mm = 2.025 m) — 30 cabinets delivering 2,400 × 1,620 pixels, about 3.9 million. That is beyond Full HD in both directions. The same arithmetic scales to any wall size, and we confirm the final count with your drawing before quotation.

Q10 What warranty does Excel LED provide on P1.25 COB displays?

Excel LED backs its indoor COB line with a standard 2-year factory warranty covering driving components and cabinet workmanship, with extended warranty options available per project. COB packaging itself removes the most common fine-pitch failure mode — damaged SMD lamp legs — which is part of why the line carries low service overhead.

Q11 Is a P1.25 COB display suitable for outdoor use?

No. This line is an indoor product: brightness spans 600–1000 nit and the front is IP54, which handles dust and splashes but not rain exposure or full-sun brightness targets. For outdoor facades we configure dedicated outdoor cabinets with higher brightness and IP65 protection.

Q12 How do I get a quote for a P1.25 COB LED display?

Send four details: target screen size, closest viewer distance, ambient light conditions, and daily running hours. We reply with a series recommendation, cabinet count, control-system sizing and factory-direct pricing — usually within one business day, with no obligation.
