Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
640 × 1,920 mm · P1.25–P2.5 GOB · Folds to 1,090 × 646 × 90 mm
A 2,050 mm freestanding screen that packs into a car boot and needs no installation — supplied by EXCEL LED, a trusted LED display manufacturer for global B2B system integrators.

Quick Answer
What it is: a tri-fold LED poster display is a freestanding 640 × 1,920 mm screen on a chassis that folds at mid-height. Why it folds: the standing unit is 2,050 mm tall and collapses to 1,090 × 646 × 90 mm. Pitches: P1.25 to P2.5 mm on one chassis. Protection: GOB face, no IP rating published. Power: mains or lithium iron phosphate battery. From EXCEL LED: factory-direct supply, pre-configured control.
What Is a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display?
A tri-fold LED poster display is a tall, narrow direct-view LED screen built onto a chassis that folds rather than a cabinet that bolts together. It stands 2,050 mm high on a wheeled base, displays on a 640 × 1,920 mm canvas, and folds down to 1,090 × 646 × 90 mm for transport. Setup is the part buyers notice first: it ships assembled, so there is no cabinet build, no module-by-module assembly and no separate media player to house.
Because the format is sold under several names, the same hardware appears in supplier listings as a foldable LED poster display, a three fold LED poster, a 640×1920 folding poster, or loosely as a foldable poster screen. All four names describe the unit on this page; only the pitch and the power build change between orders.
That single mechanical decision is what separates it from a fixed poster screen. A conventional freestanding unit assumes it will be installed once and left in place. A folding poster screen assumes it will be moved repeatedly — between shop floors, into a van, out of a flight case, onto a stand at a trade show. Every design choice downstream follows from that assumption.
The category sits inside the wider family of poster LED displays, which covers both the flat freestanding format and the folding format. The distinction matters when you request a quote, because the two are separate platforms with separate dimensions, weights and power figures — not two ways of describing the same product.
Tri-Fold LED Poster Display or Flat Freestanding Unit?
| Attribute | Tri-Fold ★ | Flat freestanding |
|---|---|---|
| Display area | 640 × 1,920 mm (1.23 m²) | 560 × 1,890 mm (1.06 m²) |
| Transport | Folds to 1,090 × 646 × 90 mm | Stays assembled and upright |
| Weight | 43 kg, aviation aluminium | Around 27 kg |
| Pixel pitch range | P1.25 – P2.5 mm | P1.75 – P2.5 mm |
| Surface technology | GOB encapsulated | SMD face |
| Fitted as standard | Built-in speakers, 4 swivel wheels | Wheel base, speakers optional |
| Choose when | It moves, ships or gets handled | It stays in one place |
The rule of thumb: if the unit will ever be lifted onto a vehicle, choose the tri-fold LED poster display. A flat 560 × 1,890 mm LED poster display is cheaper to buy and easier to store in place, but it is not built to survive repeated loading. The GOB face and the folding frame are what you are paying for.
Teams that want a taller canvas on a single hinge instead of three sections should compare the fold up and down folding LED screen — it folds in half rather than in thirds and trades the standardized 640 × 1,920 mm face for extra height.
How a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display Folds: 2,050 mm to 1,090 mm
The tri-fold LED poster display stands 2,050 mm tall and folds to 1,090 mm — a reduction of just under half. The folded package is 90 mm thick and 646 mm wide, which is the difference between needing a van and fitting in a car boot.
On a tri-fold LED poster display the hinge runs at the mid-point of the frame, which is why the folded package lands at 1,090 mm rather than at full standing height. Folding is a single-person operation: release the locking mechanism, fold the upper section down against the lower section, and the unit rolls on its castors for the remainder of the journey. There is no need to remove modules, disconnect the screen from its control electronics, or separate the base.
Tri-Fold LED Poster Display Standing and Folded Dimensions
| State | Dimensions |
|---|---|
| Display area | 640 × 1,920 mm — 1.23 m² |
| Standing (overall) | 2,050 × 646 mm, 38 mm body thickness (factory-confirmed) |
| Folded package | 1,090 × 646 × 90 mm |
| Base plate and depth | 140 mm base plate, 450 mm depth |
| Mobility | 4 swivel wheels — the folded unit is steered, not carried |
| Unit weight | 43 kg, aviation aluminium body |

What the Folded Package Means for a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display in Daily Use
- One vehicle, several units. At 90 mm folded thickness, units stack face to back without the padding a rigid cabinet needs between them.
- No install crew. The screen arrives working. A single member of staff can set it up, because setup means unfolding and plugging in.
- Storage in the closed position. A shop that only uses the tri-fold LED poster display during campaign periods can fold it against a wall instead of dedicating floor space to it year-round.
- Flight cases become optional. A folding unit still benefits from a case on a touring fleet, but a single unit moved occasionally does not require one — unlike a rigid poster cabinet of comparable screen area.
Why GOB Encapsulation Matters on a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
GOB — glue-on-board — fills the space between the LEDs with a transparent resin layer, producing a sealed surface at roughly floor-tile grade. On a tri-fold LED poster display this is not a premium option bolted onto an existing design; it is the technology that makes the folding concept viable in daily use.
The reasoning is straightforward. A tri-fold LED poster display is handled constantly: folded, cased, loaded, unloaded, unfolded. Each of those steps is an opportunity for an object to contact the LED face. A conventional SMD face will lose pixels to accidental impact within a small number of handling cycles, and a dead pixel on a 640 mm-wide screen is immediately visible to every passer-by.
Touch-Safe Face
The LED face can be knocked, wiped and pressed without losing pixels — the resin transfers load away from the solder joints.
Moisture Path Closed
The resin layer closes the route humidity normally takes to reach the solder joints and the driver ICs behind them.
Cleans Flat
Spills and fingerprints wipe off a flat sealed surface instead of lodging in the gaps between individual LEDs.
Fewer Module Swaps
Across a rental fleet’s working life, the module replacement rate is the largest single line in the service budget.

Pixel Pitch on a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display: P2.5 vs P1.86 vs P1.53 vs P1.25
All four pitches share one chassis, so the specification that changes between them is resolution and power draw, not the cabinet. A P2.5 and a P1.25 tri-fold LED poster display differ on the inside, but they fold, ship and install identically. That is worth knowing when you compare quotes, because a supplier quoting a higher pitch is not offering a lesser product — they are offering a different viewing distance.
Pixel pitch sets the closest distance at which the image still reads as a picture rather than a grid of dots. The workable rule is that a viewer needs roughly one metre of distance for every millimetre of pitch before the pixel structure stops being visible.
| Pitch | Resolution | Comfortable From | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| P2.5 | 256 × 768 px | 2.5 m and beyond | Aisles and concourses where nobody stops close to the screen |
| P1.86 | 344 × 1,032 px | Around 2 m | Retail floors and reception areas with passing but not stationary viewers |
| P1.53 | 416 × 1,248 px | From about 1.5 m | Shop windows and product walls where customers read text up close |
| P1.25 | 512 × 1,536 px | From about 1.2 m | Close-viewing applications, brand text and fine detail |
Two practical notes. First, a tri-fold LED poster display is usually viewed from further away than its size suggests, because it stands on the floor in a circulation route rather than on a wall that people approach directly — which pushes most projects toward P1.86 or P2.5 rather than the finest pitch available. Second, power draw rises as pitch falls: the P1.25 unit draws a peak of 650 W against 430 W for the P2.5, so a fine pitch on a battery build shortens runtime.
Plug-In or Battery: Two Power Builds on One Chassis
The tri-fold LED poster display is built in two power versions on the same 640 × 1,920 mm chassis. The mains version runs from a standard supply. The battery version carries an internal lithium iron phosphate pack rated for 3,000-plus charge cycles.
Lithium iron phosphate rather than a conventional lithium-ion chemistry is the relevant detail for a commercial display. It holds its capacity across far more cycles, tolerates higher ambient temperatures, and does not suffer the thermal runaway behaviour that makes standard lithium-ion packs unsuitable for unattended public locations. For a unit that will be charged nightly in a shop back office for years, cycle life is the number that determines whether the battery is an asset or a maintenance item.
When the Battery Version Earns Its Premium on a Tri-Fold Unit
- Positions with no socket. Mid-floor retail, exhibition halls and outdoor forecourts frequently have no accessible power point.
- Cable-free presentation stands. Where a trailing lead across a walkway is a trip hazard or simply looks unprofessional.
- Temporary activations. Pop-up events where running power is more work than the installation itself.
- Repositioning during the day. A unit that moves between locations can do so without being shut down and re-cabled.
Where a socket is available and the tri-fold LED poster display stays put, the mains version is the better buy: lower cost, no battery to age, no charging routine to manage. Battery capacity and runtime depend on pitch, brightness setting and content, so runtime is quoted against your configuration rather than as a single figure.
Splicing Tri-Fold Poster Units Into a Larger Canvas
Multiple tri-fold LED poster displays can be placed side by side and driven as one continuous image. The cabinets use a quick-lock design and are calibrated to match, so a row of units reads as a single wide screen rather than as several screens standing next to each other — and the same units can be separated again for individual use.
This is what makes the tri-fold LED poster display work commercially for rental companies. One fleet serves both a single-unit lobby booking and a multi-unit backdrop for a stage or an exhibition stand, with no second product line to buy, store or maintain.
- Order one batch. Mixing production batches risks a visible brightness and colour step at the join.
- Keep pitch consistent. A P1.86 tri-fold LED poster display beside a P2.5 unit shows a step in pixel density even when brightness matches.
- Ask for a calibration report on the full canvas. Per-unit calibration is not the same as calibration across the spliced wall.
- Check the receiving card’s port count. The number of units one controller can drive depends on the card’s ports and the resolution per unit — see the LED control system collection for the controller range.
- Plan the structure, not just the electronics. A spliced row of freestanding units is limited by stability rather than signal; above a single unit’s height, plan for wall fixing or a purpose-built frame.
Content Control and Day-to-Day Operation
A tri-fold LED poster display is normally operated by shop or marketing staff rather than by a technician, which shapes the control design. There are four routes in, and most installations use more than one.
Wireless Update
Publish to the screen over the local network from a phone, tablet or laptop. No cable to the unit.
Plug-and-Play
Load a playlist onto a USB drive and insert it. Useful where no network exists on site.
Mobile Control
Schedule playlists and adjust brightness from a phone — no PC on site at any point.
Remote Publishing
Update a unit that is not on any local network, and manage a fleet across sites from one dashboard.
The unit supports synchronous and asynchronous playback, so it can run a stored playlist without a connected source, or be driven live from a media player for events where the screen is part of a stage setup. Interfaces are RS485, WiFi, USB and up to two HDMI inputs. The built-in 2 × 50 × 12 mm speakers mean a single tri-fold LED poster display can carry an advertising message with sound without external audio equipment — unusual in this format and the reason the folding model is often chosen over a flat unit for standalone advertising.
For larger deployments the units run on the same control ecosystem as fixed installations, so controllers such as NovaStar and Colorlight are widely supported and one operator can manage folding poster units alongside indoor LED screens and outdoor LED displays. Configuration is normally pre-loaded at the factory: supply the resolution, content format and network details, and the unit ships with its receiving card settings already mapped.
Where a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display Works Best
The folding format earns its premium wherever the screen has to move or be handled. In a permanently fixed position, a flat poster screen does the same job for less money, which is the trade-off a tri-fold LED poster display asks you to accept.

- Rental fleets. One product covers lobby bookings, stage backdrops and exhibition stands. The folding frame is what makes repeated transport viable.
- Exhibition and trade stands. Units ship in the same vehicle as the rest of the stand and set up without tools or an install crew.
- Retail campaign rollouts. The same screen moves between branches as campaigns rotate, which changes the economics against printing a new poster per store.
- Hospitality and events. Built-in audio lets a single unit carry a complete advertising message in a bar, restaurant or function space.
- Corporate receptions and product launches. Fine pitch options make close-viewed brand text and product imagery credible at the P1.25–P1.53 end.
- Touring activations. A tri-fold LED poster display carries a −40 to 50 °C operating range covers cold-weather and hot-vehicle conditions that would take a consumer display out of service.
We publish completed installations with the constraint that drove the specification, so you can compare a real project against your own requirement — see the LED display case studies for the project set, including rental deployments where the same fleet is used at single-unit and multi-unit scale.
What a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display Costs
No LED display manufacturer publishes a list price, and any page quoting a single number for a tri-fold LED poster display is either guessing or quoting one specific configuration. What can be verified is what dealers and retailers advertise publicly, and that is what the figures below use.
Everything in this section comes from public dealer and retailer listings. These are not EXCEL quotations, and they carry a dealer margin on top of factory cost.
What Drives the Price of a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
- Pixel pitch. The single largest factor. Finer pitch means more LEDs, more driver ICs and a tighter production tolerance per square metre.
- Power version. A battery build adds a lithium iron phosphate pack and its charge management, which is a material step up from the mains version.
- Control package. Synchronous playback, 4G publishing and cloud management are separate modules rather than standard inclusions.
- Quantity and batch. Units in one order are produced as one batch, which is both cheaper per unit and necessary for splicing consistency.
- Certification and documentation. Compliance paperwork for a specific market is priced into the order, not added afterwards.
- Freight and duty. A 43 kg unit at these dimensions is volumetric freight; shipping is a real line in the landed cost, not a rounding error.
Because a tri-fold LED poster display is sold as a configured product rather than a catalogue item, the honest way to price a project is to fix four inputs first: pitch, power version, quantity and destination. With those four we can quote a comparable figure instead of a range wide enough to be useless.
Installation and Setup of a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
Installation is the shortest part of a tri-fold LED poster display project precisely because the unit arrives assembled. There is no cabinet build, no module-by-module assembly and no separate media player to house. What remains is positioning, unfolding and power.
- Unfold and lock. Release the transport lock, raise the upper section and engage the standing lock. One person can complete this without tools.
- Roll into position. The four swivel wheels let the unit be steered rather than carried, including through standard doorways at the 646 mm folded width.
- Connect power. The mains version runs from a standard 110–240 V AC supply. The battery version is charged in position.
- Load content. Publish over WiFi, insert a USB drive, or push an update remotely over 4G.
- Splice if required. For a multi-unit arrangement, align the tri-fold LED poster display units using the quick-lock design and confirm brightness uniformity across the row.
The two constraints worth checking before a tri-fold LED poster display is delivered are floor surface and access. The unit is stable on its 140 mm base plate with a 450 mm footprint, but it is a freestanding 2,050 mm column, so positions in a circulation route or beside a doorway should be assessed for knock risk. On access, the 646 mm folded width passes standard doorways; the standing unit should be unfolded in the room it will occupy rather than moved through the building assembled.
Maintenance and Spare Parts for a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
A tri-fold LED poster display is maintained at module level rather than unit level, which is what keeps whole-life cost low. Because the modules are magnetic and rear-serviceable, a failed module is a swap rather than a return-to-factory repair.

Routine Maintenance Schedule for a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
| Interval | Task | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | Wipe the GOB face with a dry microfibre cloth | Dust dulls the image and traps heat on the module surface |
| Monthly | Check modules for dead pixels and reseat any that have lifted | Single dead pixels are cheap to fix early and obvious to viewers |
| Monthly | Verify brightness uniformity across the canvas | Detects driver degradation before it appears as visible banding |
| Quarterly | Inspect the hinge, the standing lock and the swivel wheels | The folding mechanism is the part that carries handling wear |
| Quarterly | Check power supply, cabling and connectors | Loose connectors are the most common cause of an intermittent black panel |
| Annually | Full calibration check against a reference colour target | Restores colour consistency across spliced units |
Spare Parts Worth Keeping for a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
- 2–3 spare LED modules per fleet — the 320 × 160 mm module is the only part likely to need replacing in normal use.
- One spare power supply per 5–10 units — the second most common failure point and inexpensive to stock.
- One spare receiving card per site — protects against a control-side failure without a shipping delay.
- A flight case per touring unit — optional for occasional moves, close to essential on a rental fleet.
For fleets, two additional points decide the whole-life cost. First, confirm the module is a standard part that will still be supplied in three years — a proprietary module turns a cheap repair into a screen replacement. Second, keep the fleet on one pitch so spares and calibration are interchangeable between units.
How to Choose a Tri-Fold LED Poster Display
Five decisions settle almost every tri-fold LED poster display project. Working through them in order avoids the situation where a screen is bought on pitch and then found to be wrong on power or transport.
- 1. Will it move? If the answer is no, a flat freestanding poster screen is cheaper and does the same job. A tri-fold LED poster display only pays for itself where the unit is handled.
- 2. What is the real viewing distance? Choose the pitch from the closest distance a viewer will stand, not the average. Most floor-standing installations land on P1.86 or P2.5.
- 3. Mains or battery? Decide from whether a socket is reachable in the position the screen will actually occupy, not the position it is drawn in on the plan.
- 4. One unit or a spliced row? If a row is planned, order as one batch and specify calibration across the full canvas.
- 5. Who operates it day to day? If shop staff rather than technicians, prioritise the app and cloud route over a PC-based controller.
When You Should Not Choose a Folding Poster Screen
- The screen will never move. A permanently positioned unit gains nothing from the folding frame of a tri-fold LED poster display, and pays for it anyway.
- The position faces weather directly. This family publishes no IP rating; permanent open-air mounting needs a sealed outdoor build instead.
- A fixed wall is available. A wall-mounted screen of the same area is usually cheaper and cannot be knocked over.
- The requirement is a large single image. Above a certain size, a purpose-built video wall is more economical than tiling many poster units.
None of these are reasons the product is unsuitable — they are cases where a different format wins. If you are unsure which side of the line your project falls on, describe the position and the movement pattern and we will say plainly whether the folding format is the right buy. Our wider range of indoor fine pitch LED displays covers the fixed-installation alternative.
Tri-Fold LED Poster Display: Frequently Asked Questions
Q1 What is a tri-fold LED poster display?
A tri-fold LED poster display is a freestanding direct-view LED screen on a chassis that folds for transport. The display area is 640 × 1,920 mm standing 2,050 mm tall, and it collapses to 1,090 × 646 × 90 mm. It ships assembled and needs no installation, which makes it the usual choice for rental fleets, exhibitions and campaigns that move between locations.
Q2 How much does a tri-fold LED poster display cost?
There is no published list price, because the platform is configured rather than catalogued. Four inputs set the price: pixel pitch, mains or battery power, quantity and destination. Pitch matters most — a P1.25 build carries roughly twice the LED and driver count of a P2.5 build on the same chassis. Public dealer listings carry a margin on top of factory cost.
Q3 Which pixel pitch should I choose?
Choose from the closest distance a viewer will stand, allowing roughly one metre per millimetre of pitch. Floor-standing units are usually viewed from further away than their height suggests, so most projects land on P1.86 or P2.5. Choose P1.53 or P1.25 where customers read text up close, such as a shop window or a product wall.
Q4 Is a folding LED poster display waterproof?
This product family publishes no IP rating. Protection comes from the GOB-encapsulated face plus splash and moisture resistance, which suits indoor positions and covered outdoor use rather than permanent open-air mounting. If the screen will face rain directly, tell us when requesting a quote so a sealed outdoor build can be specified instead.
Q5 What is GOB and why does it matter on a folding screen?
GOB stands for glue-on-board: a transparent resin layer fills the gaps between the LEDs and seals the face at roughly floor-tile grade. On a unit that is folded, cased and shipped repeatedly, it is what prevents pixels being lost to the knocks that handling causes. It also makes the surface wipeable rather than a trap for dust and spills.
Q6 Can several tri-fold poster units be joined into one screen?
Yes. On a tri-fold LED poster display the cabinets use a quick-lock design and are calibrated to match, so a row of units drives as one continuous canvas and can be separated again for individual use. Order the full quantity as one production batch, keep the pitch consistent across the row, and request a calibration report covering the whole spliced wall rather than per unit.
Q7 How long does the battery version run?
Runtime of a tri-fold LED poster display depends on pitch, how close to maximum brightness it runs, and the content, so it is quoted against your configuration rather than as a single figure. The pack is lithium iron phosphate, rated for more than 3,000 charge cycles. Finer pitch draws more power: the P1.25 build peaks at 650 W against 430 W for P2.5, so a fine-pitch battery unit runs for less time per charge.
Q8 How many people does it take to set up?
One. A tri-fold LED poster display ships assembled, so setup means unfolding the frame, locking it upright, rolling it into position and connecting power. There is no cabinet build, no module assembly and no separate media player to install. At 43 kg on four swivel wheels the folded unit is steered rather than carried, and the 646 mm folded width passes standard doorways.
Q9 How do I configure content without a computer on site?
Yes. Content can be published over WiFi, loaded from a USB drive, scheduled from a phone app, or pushed remotely over 4G where no local network exists. Both synchronous and asynchronous playback are supported, so a stored playlist can run unattended or the screen can be driven live for an event. Configuration is normally pre-loaded at the factory, so the PC tools used to set up a fixed wall, NovaLCT among them, are not part of the daily routine on site.
Q10 What is the difference between a tri-fold and a flat poster LED display?
The flat format is a smaller 560 × 1,890 mm screen of around 27 kg that stays assembled; the tri-fold is a larger 640 × 1,920 mm screen of 43 kg that folds to a 90 mm package. The tri-fold carries a GOB face and built-in speakers as standard and is built to be handled. Choose flat when the unit stays put, tri-fold when it moves.
Q11 Does it have built-in sound?
Yes. Two 50 × 12 mm speakers are built into the chassis, with a 3.5 mm audio output and support for an external amplifier where more level is needed. Built-in audio is uncommon in this format and is one reason the folding model is often chosen over a flat unit for standalone advertising, because one unit then carries a complete message.
Q12 What warranty and support come with it?
Standard warranty is two years covering LED dead pixels, driver IC failure and power supply faults, with an extended term available on request. Because maintenance is at module level, support is normally resolved by shipping a replacement module rather than returning a unit. Full terms are confirmed against your order specification before production begins.
Q13 Is there an operation manual or a firmware download?
Yes. Every order ships with an operation manual covering setup, content publishing, the splicing procedure and the maintenance schedule. Firmware and configuration files for the control system are supplied as downloads, so a unit in the field can be updated on site rather than shipped back. Replacement modules are ordered using the module code printed on the housing.
Tri-Fold LED Poster Display Supplied Factory-Direct
A tri-fold LED poster display solves one specific problem: a large, high-brightness screen that has to be moved without an installation crew. The 640 × 1,920 mm canvas, the fold to a 90 mm package and the GOB face are three parts of one answer to that problem, and the four pitch options let the same unit serve a concourse, a shop window or a close-viewed product wall.
