P3 Outdoor LED Display
3 mm pixel pitch · 192×192 mm SMD1415 module · 960×960 mm cabinet · 111,111 px/m²
A P3 outdoor LED display is the closest-pitch screen in the outdoor range: 3 mm between pixel centres, 111,111 pixels per square meter, and street-level legibility where a P4 or P6 wall would show its grid. It is built on the 192×192 mm outdoor module — a different platform from our 320×160 mm P3.076 line. This page collects every form it exists in: module sizes, cabinet sizes and every control system that can drive it, factory-direct from Excel LED (LEGIDATECH).

Quick Answer: What Is a P3 Outdoor LED Display?
A P3 outdoor LED display is a 3 mm pixel pitch outdoor LED video wall built from 192×192 mm SMD1415 modules.
• Module: 64×64 pixels (4,096 dots), 1/16 scan, 48 driver ICs, SMD1415 lamps
• Density: 111,111 px/m² — 3 m minimum viewing, comfortable band roughly 3–30 m
• Cabinet: 960×960 mm (25 modules, 320×320 px = 102,400 px) as the standard grid; small 576×576 and 768×768 grids on request
• Typical build: 4,500–5,000 nits, ≥1,920 Hz refresh, IP65-class waterproof cabinets with front and rear maintenance
• Control: synchronous and asynchronous options — NovaStar · Colorlight · Huidu · Linsn hardware we stock
• Best for: premium street-level DOOH, airport and station concourses, retail facades, sports venue close-range walls
- Why this pitch exists — it is the only way to read fine text and logos outdoors at close range. At 3 mm you get indoor-style sharpness in a waterproof, 5,000-nit body.
- Bottom line for buyers — P3 is priced like fine pitch, so buy it only where viewers genuinely stand within 3–10 m; beyond that, outdoor P4 or P6.67 does the job for less.
- Do not confuse it with P3.076 — our P3.076 outdoor line uses a 320×160 mm module (104×52 px). This page covers the 192×192 mm platform, which tiles the 960 mm grid 5×5.
Which Module Sizes Does a P3 Outdoor LED Display Use?
At a 3 mm pitch the module grid decides everything, because a 3 mm gap must divide the board exactly. Our outdoor P3 line is built on the 192×192 mm board — 64×64 pixels, 4,096 dots — which divides the 960 mm cabinet 5×5. Pixel figures below are exact arithmetic from the pitch (1,000 ÷ 3 mm = 333.3 px per metre), cross-checked against the factory module list.
| Module size | Resolution & dots | Per cabinet | Boards per m² | LED & drive | Notes & service |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 192×192 mm standard |
64×64 px 4,096 dots |
25 | 27.13 | SMD1415 · 48 ICs · 1/16 scan | Factory module list. 4,096 px × 3 colours ÷ 16 channels ÷ 16 scan = 48 driver ICs — arithmetic and factory data agree. Front & rear service. |

25 | 27.13 | SMD1415 · 1/16 scan | Bendable substrate for curved columns and corner installations; same pixel grid, different board. |
Which Cabinet Sizes Does a P3 Outdoor LED Display Ship In?
960×960 mm is the standard outdoor carrier for this pitch: twenty-five 192×192 mm modules in a 5×5 layout, 320×320 pixels (102,400 px) per cabinet, in a waterproof body with front and rear maintenance. Smaller grids are built on request for pillars, corners and retrofit frames.

Why 960 mm is the grid to design around
Three reasons, and they all save money later. Structure arithmetic: a 960 mm unit gives clean multiples for facade cladding and steel frames. Module arithmetic: at 3 mm the 960 mm square divides into exactly 25 boards, so nothing is cut. Interchangeability: a replacement cabinet years later still bolts onto the same holes — we keep the same grid across the outdoor range.
Which cabinet form should you pick?
- Street-level DOOH or concourse wall → the 960×960 standard grid: best price, best lead time, spares on the shelf.
- Pillar, column or narrow facade → the 576×576 or 768×768 grid: lighter pieces, easier to hand-carry and align on a tight face.
- Retrofit onto an existing steel frame → send us the frame drawing first: a 192 mm multiple that fits your holes usually costs less than adapting the structure.
- Coastal or highly corrosive site → cabinet material matters more than size: specify the sealed waterproof body and confirm the IP class of the rear door.
- Curved or corner installation → the flexible 192×192 mm board on a curved frame, not a flat cabinet grid.
Which Control Systems Work With a P3 Outdoor LED Display?
A P3 outdoor cabinet is electrically ordinary: standard HUB75 module interface, conventional outdoor scan, low-voltage module rails. That is why it accepts every mainstream control ecosystem — the real decision is not “which system is compatible” but which family your operators already run, because sending cards and receiving cards must come from the same family.
Synchronous or asynchronous?
Both routes are documented on this line, and the choice is operational rather than technical:
- Asynchronous smart-cloud system — an onboard player card stores and schedules content; updates are pushed from a phone app or the cloud over 4G/Wi-Fi, with no PC on site. Best for advertising panels and single-screen sites.
- Synchronous live-event system — a sending card or video processor in the control room drives the wall in real time: live camera, switcher output, multi-window content. Best for venues, broadcast and stadium screens.
The signal chain, end to end
- 1. Video source — media player, PC, camera or streaming decoder.
- 2. Video processor / sending card — scales, switches and packetises: HDMI / DVI / SDI in, gigabit Ethernet out.
- 3. Transport — Cat6 for normal runs, fibre where the distance or the lightning risk demands it.
- 4. Receiving card — dimensioned per cabinet; a P3 cabinet is dense, so plan more than one card (below).
- 5. Modules — twenty-five 192×192 mm boards per 960×960 cabinet, daisy-chained POWER IN/OUT and SIGNAL IN/OUT.
| Ecosystem | Typical hardware | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| NovaStar platform we stock and support |
MRV336 receiving card · MCTRL660 controller · MCTRL4K 4K sender | DOOH networks needing remote diagnostics and per-pixel calibration |
| Colorlight platform we stock and support |
i9+ receiving card · X16 video processor | Dense cabinets where data groups, not pixels, set the card bill |
| Huidu platform we stock and support |
HD-C16C async card · VP620 video processor | Asynchronous cloud scheduling on single-screen ad sites |
| Linsn platform we stock and support |

How many receiving cards does a P3 outdoor wall need?
Two limits decide the card count, and the larger one binds — this cabinet is the densest in the outdoor range. Pixel capacity: one 960×960 cabinet carries 102,400 px, while a mid-range card such as the MRV336 loads 256×256 = 65,536 px at 60 Hz — so a single card cannot cover one cabinet: 2 cards per cabinet on pixel capacity alone. Port loading: the cabinet needs 25 module feeds and a 12-port card carries 12, so ports alone would ask for 3 cards. The binding limit is 3 cards per cabinet (port loading), and higher-port or higher-capacity cards reduce it.
- Driver ICs matter here — the line is documented with dual-latch drivers (Chipone ICN2038S or Macroblock MBI5124 class) for ≥1,920 Hz refresh; confirm the grade on your quotation.
- Redundancy — on revenue-critical walls add a second sending card in hot standby; a failed cabinet still does not take the wall down.
- Remote management — NovaStar and Colorlight sending platforms report cabinet temperature and voltage and support scheduled brightness by time of day.
- The one rule that saves the most money — sending card and receiving cards from the same family. Mixing families is the most common commissioning failure we get called about.
The architecture of each role — sender, processor, receiving card, async player — is compared in our LED control system collection.

P3 Viewing Distance and Resolution Math
Pitch sets the floor of your viewing range. At 3 mm the floor is about 3 m — close enough for street-level reading, which is exactly why this pitch is specified for concourses, plazas and shop-front facades rather than for highways.
| Measurement | Formula | For P3 |
|---|---|---|
| Pixels per meter | 1,000 ÷ pitch (mm) | 333.3 px/m |
| Pixel density | 333.3 × 333.3 | 111,111 px/m² |
| Minimum comfortable viewing | ≈ pitch (mm) × 1 m | ≈ 3 m |
| Comfortable viewing band | Pitch × 1 m to pitch × 10 m | 3–30 m |
| Screen pixels | Width (m) × 333.3 by height (m) × 333.3 | 3.84 × 2.88 m → 1,280 × 960 px |
Where a P3 Outdoor LED Display Fits
- Premium street-level DOOH and retail facades — pedestrians pass a few metres away, so brand text, prices and QR codes must stay crisp in daylight.
- Airport, rail and metro concourses — mixed ambient light and close reading distances, with front maintenance often required because there is no rear access.
- Landmark and mid-level building facades — where the client wants indoor-grade sharpness on an outdoor structure.
- Creative corner and pillar installations — the 576×576 and 768×768 grids and the flexible board make awkward geometry buildable.
- Sports venues at close range — courtside and pitch-side walls where the camera and the front rows are within 10 m.
Where P3 is the wrong answer
- Highway billboards and long-range signage — nobody resolves 3 mm pixels at 40 m; use P6.67 or P10 and spend the saving on area.
- Budget-driven street signage — where the viewer is 5–15 m away, outdoor P4 reads almost as well for materially less money.
- Touring and rental — a fixed waterproof cabinet is not a touring chassis; see P3.91 rental.
P3 Outdoor vs P3.076 vs P4 vs P6.67: Which Should You Choose?
| Pitch | Module | Density | Best viewing | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P3.076 | 320×160 mm (104×52 px) | 105,700 px/m² | 3 m+ | You want the wider 320×160 board and its 13S / 84-IC circuit |
| P3 (this page) ★ | 192×192 mm (64×64 px) | 111,111 px/m² | 3 m+ | You want the 192 mm grid that tiles 960 mm 5×5, with rear or front service |
| P4 | 320×160 mm (80×40 px) | 62,500 px/m² | 4 m+ | Budget matters and the closest viewer is 4 m out |
| P6.67 | 192×192 mm (32×32 px) | 22,500 px/m² | 7 m+ | Highway billboards and stadium perimeters at long range |
Note the family resemblance: P3 and P6.67 both use a 192×192 mm module, so the same cabinet and tooling logic applies — only the pixel count per board changes (4,096 at 3 mm, 1,024 at 6.67 mm). If your project spans both a close-range concourse and a long-range facade, one cabinet platform can serve both.
How Much Does a P3 Outdoor LED Display Cost?
P3 is the most expensive pitch per square meter in the outdoor range, because pixel count drives BOM cost: four times the pixels of P6 means roughly four times the driver ICs, receiving cards and calibration work. What moves the number, in order of impact:
| Cost driver | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|
| Screen area and cabinet count | Everything scales with area — and at this pitch the receiving-card count scales faster, because one cabinet needs several cards. |
| Driver IC grade | Dual-latch drivers (ICN2038S / MBI5124 class) cost more than standard parts and are the difference between a stable 1,920 Hz wall and a flickering one. |
| LED grade and binning | SMD1415 lamp grade, wire type and per-pixel calibration are the biggest visible quality variables on a fine-pitch outdoor wall. |
| Cabinet material | Magnesium alloy (28 kg class) costs more than an aluminium profile but reduces structural load and installation time. |
| Control platform | Card count and platform choice interact: a higher-port, higher-capacity card family can cut the card bill on a dense wall. |
| Weatherproofing | IP65-class sealing, conformal coating and lightning protection are not optional outdoors — and they are priced in. |
| Structure, install and freight | Steel, lifting, commissioning and shipping are project costs; quote them together or the comparison is meaningless. |

Frequently Asked Questions About P3 Outdoor LED Displays
Q1 What does P3 mean on an outdoor LED display?
P3 means the pixel pitch is 3 mm — the centre-to-centre distance between neighbouring pixels. One square meter carries 111,111 pixels, and the display is designed to be read from about 3 m and beyond, which makes it the fine-pitch choice for street-level outdoor screens.
Q2 Is P3 outdoor the same as P3.076 outdoor?
No. This page covers the 192×192 mm module platform (64×64 px, 1/16 scan, 48 driver ICs). Our P3.076 outdoor line uses a 320×160 mm module at 104×52 px with a 13S circuit. Both are 3 mm-class pitches, but the cabinet arithmetic and the module stock are different.
Q3 Which module sizes are available for P3 outdoor?
The standard board is 192×192 mm with 64×64 pixels (4,096 dots), 48 driver ICs, SMD1415 lamps and a 1/16 scan. A flexible 192×192 mm board is available on request for curved and corner installations.
Q4 Which cabinet sizes are available for P3 outdoor?
960×960 mm is the standard grid — twenty-five modules, 320×320 pixels (102,400 px) — quoted with a magnesium-alloy body at 28 kg on our B-series documentation. 768×768 mm and 576×576 mm grids are built on request for pillars and small facades, and custom sizes must be multiples of 192 mm.
Q5 How many pixels are on a P3 outdoor module?
64 × 64 = 4,096 pixels on the 192×192 mm board, driven by 48 driver ICs — arithmetic that matches the factory module list (4,096 px × 3 colours ÷ 16 channels ÷ 16 scan = 48 ICs).
Q6 How many modules are in a P3 outdoor cabinet?
Twenty-five in the 960×960 mm standard cabinet (5×5 layout), sixteen in the 768×768 mm grid, or nine in the 576×576 mm grid.
Q7 Which control systems work with a P3 outdoor wall?
The cabinet uses the standard HUB75 interface, so NovaStar, Colorlight, Huidu and Linsn sending and receiving hardware all work, with Mooncell, VDWALL or RGBlink front-end processing. Both synchronous and asynchronous (cloud-scheduled) operation are documented on this line.
Q8 How many receiving cards does a P3 outdoor cabinet need?
Plan three per 960×960 cabinet on 8- or 12-port hardware. The cabinet carries 102,400 px — more than a mid-range card’s 65,536 px loading — and its 25 module feeds also exceed a 12-port card, so port loading binds first.
Q9 How bright is a P3 outdoor LED display?
4,500–5,000 nits on the current documentation, which is the daylight-readable class for a fine-pitch outdoor wall. With fine pitch, brightness uniformity and low-brightness grayscale matter more than the peak figure.
Q10 Can a P3 outdoor screen be front-serviced?
Yes — front and rear maintenance are both available on the standard cabinet, which is what makes wall-mounted and concourse installations practical where there is no rear access corridor.
Q11 P3 vs P4 outdoor — which should I choose?
Choose P3 when viewers come within about 3–4 m and detail has to hold (text, prices, logos). Choose P4 when the closest viewer is 4 m or more away — it reads nearly as well from there and costs materially less per square meter.
Q12 How much does a P3 outdoor LED display cost?
It depends on screen area and cabinet count, driver IC and LED grade, cabinet material, control platform and weatherproofing — and at this pitch the receiving-card count is a bigger line than at coarser pitches. Send your wall dimensions and closest viewing distance for a factory-direct quotation.
